A man and woman looking hopeful

Triple negative breast cancer is a type of breast cancer where breast cancer cells test negative for three times hormone receptors - estrogen, progesterone and the HER2 protein. This means that hormone therapy and medicines that target HER2 protein receptors are not effective against this type of cancer.

Choosing a Triple Negative Breast Cancer Specialist in Florida

About 10-15% of all breast cancers are triple negative breast cancers and typically it is a more aggressive type of cancer. Symptoms of triple negative breast cancer are very similar to those of other forms of breast cancer, and can only be diagnosed when cancer cells are sent to the lab to be analyzed.

Since the lack of certain hormone receptors influences how a patient will respond to treatment, receiving a proper diagnosis or a second opinion on what treatment options to pursue is important, but how do you select a specialist with whom to consult?

Experience

If you have been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer you may want to have a few questions ready to determine if this triple negative breast cancer specialist is right for you.

  • How often do they see triple negative breast cancer patients?
  • What treatments are available?
  • If surgery is recommended, how often is that surgery performed?

Treatments Available

No two cases of triple negative breast cancer are the same, which is why going to an expert who provides an individualized treatment plan can make all the difference. Typical treatment options include:
