Moffitt Cancer Center’s Cutaneous Oncology Program accepts referrals for patients with all forms of melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer, as well as patients with suspected skin cancers who are in need of prompt diagnostic testing. We are the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida, and we emphasize translational research and evidence-based best practices to produce the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Patients who are referred to Moffitt receive treatment from not just one oncologist, but rather a multispecialty team of experts who focus exclusively on the treatment of skin cancer. Furthermore, our collaborative tumor board meets on a weekly basis to assess patients' responses to treatment and recommend changes as needed.
Moffitt Cancer Center’s Cutaneous Oncology Program is widely regarded as one of the top advanced skin cancer programs in the country, providing a wide-ranging scope of preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic services in a single location. We provide:
- Diagnostic imaging services, including lymphoscintigraphy
- Biopsies and expedited on-site results processing
- Surgical excision of tumors, including Mohs surgery, robotic-assisted lymphadenectomy and minimally invasive groin dissection for metastatic melanomas
- Limb and liver perfusions
- Radiation therapy
- Reconstructive plastic surgery
- Supportive care
- Systematic therapies including immunotherapy and targeted therapies
Moffitt also offers patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials that are investigating emerging therapies, such as intralesional therapy, adoptive cell therapy, immunotherapy and molecularly targeted therapy. Many of these trials are overseen by Moffitt's Comprehensive Melanoma Research Center. Moffitt’s Cutaneous Oncology Program has helped pioneer a number of notable advancements, including adjuvant therapy for node-negative and node-positive patients and sentinel node biopsies for staging of patients with clinically negative nodes. Additionally, the National Cancer Institute has awarded our team a Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant for melanoma research.
