Head and Neck Cancer Screening Program

Moffitt Cancer Center's Head and Neck Cancer Screening Program provides free community-based screenings and educational resources. Since its launch in April 2017, the program has screened more than 5,600 individuals and identified over 500 abnormal findings, helping connect participants with appropriate follow-up care.

During each screening, a healthcare provider reviews the participant's medical history and performs a comprehensive examination of the oral cavity, throat and ears to detect potential abnormalities. Individuals with concerning findings are referred to their primary care provider or an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist for further evaluation. Participants also receive information on head and neck cancer risk factors, prevention and early detection. Annual screening is recommended for individuals at increased risk.

The Head and Neck-Endocrine Oncology Program conducts these community-based screenings to promote early detection and increase awareness of head and neck cancer risk factors and symptoms. By bringing screening services directly into the community, the program increases access to preventive care, helps identify potential concerns before they progress and encourages timely medical follow-up when needed. In addition to supporting prevention and early intervention efforts, the program helps reduce barriers to care and expand outreach to underserved populations.
