Moffitt Cancer Center’s pathology services are provided by the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Program, which is accredited by the College of American Pathologists – a designation that recognizes our excellence in these fields. Our team includes more than 60 board-certified pathologists and Ph.D. scientists, all of whom have a wide range of expertise in subspecialties such as:

  • Surgical pathology
  • Anatomic pathology
  • Molecular pathology
  • Neuropathology
  • Cytopathology
  • Hematopathology
  • Clinical laboratory medicine

Our pathologists have vast experience with a wide range of blood, fluid and tissue samples, enabling us to properly diagnose even the rarest cancers. And, because these specialists work hand-in-hand with our oncologists, providing detailed information about the cellular makeup of each individual tumor sample, we are able to create treatment plans that account for the unique genetic factors that can influence each patient’s response to various treatments.

Moffitt’s skilled pathologists provide a complete range of pathology services, from traditional diagnostic biopsies to cytology, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, cytogenetic testing and more. All pathology services are conducted on-site, ensuring rapid turnaround times and efficient reporting of test results. And, to ensure the highest degree of accuracy and excellence, our state-of-the-art laboratories utilize the most up-to-date techniques and equipment. The quality of our work is continuously monitored by internal and external quality control programs, and we participate in both routine proficiency testing and hospital-wide quality improvement programs.
