Moffitt researcher in the clinical lab

Complementing the research programs, Moffitt developed Centers of Excellence (CoEs) to specifically foster collaboration between all of the research programs and clinical services. They build upon Moffitt research strengths and each addresses an important cancer problem in Florida and beyond. These translational research venues undergo a rigorous review before approval.

Currently, there are four CoEs:

  • Center for Evolutionary Therapy - The Center of Excellence for Evolutionary Therapy works to develop and deploy the next generation of truly personalized cancer therapy, through the integration of predictive mathematical models, patient data and evolutionary principles.
  • Center for Immunization and Infection Research in Cancer  - Established in 2012, the Center for Immunization and Infection Research in Cancer (CIIRC) is the premier vaccine and infection cancer research center in the nation.
  • Lung Cancer - The Lung Cancer Center of Excellence brings together highly complex scientific teams to break down barriers and focus on transformative steps to prevent and treat lung cancer.
  • Melanoma and Skin Cancer - The Melanoma and Skin Cancer CoE along with the Department of Cutaneous Oncology has participated in every pivotal clinical trial that has led to FDA approval of an agent for skin cancer since 2010, a distinction that is shared by no other cancer center.
