Your Mesothelioma Specialists
Few doctors have worked on as many mesothelioma cases as the oncologists at Moffitt Cancer Center. When it comes to rare cancers like mesothelioma, partnering with an experienced specialist can provide an important advantage. And at Moffitt, we don’t just have experience in treating mesothelioma – we have established one of the nation’s only specialty treatment centers for this relatively uncommon condition. Moffitt’s Mesothelioma Research and Treatment Center is home to a number of acclaimed mesothelioma doctors, including specialists who are published experts in the fields of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and other novel treatments.
The mesothelioma doctors at Moffitt include:
- Surgical oncologists – Our thoracic surgeons specialize in procedures involving the chest and lungs. These doctors have extensive experience in performing extrapleural pneumonectomies, pleurectomy/decortications and other complex mesothelioma surgeries.
- Medical oncologists – Our medical oncologists specialize in designing chemotherapy prescriptions using the most effective drugs for treating mesothelioma. This includes single chemo medications as well as combinations and novel drugs that are currently available solely through clinical trials.
- Radiation oncologists – Our radiation oncologists specialize in providing targeted radiation therapy, using high-energy beams to shrink and destroy tumors. Our team has the experience necessary to gain the maximum benefits from our advanced radiation technologies.
Working alongside these mesothelioma doctors is a team of experienced pathologists and radiologists, who help to ensure that every patient receives a prompt and accurate diagnosis. Our radiologists review imaging scans to look for abnormal growths in the chest and abdomen, while our pathologists use cell tests to confirm or rule out the presence of mesothelioma and provide our oncologists with cellular profiles of each tumor. Our supportive care providers also work hand-in-hand with our doctors to ensure that each patient is receiving the comprehensive attention he or she needs to maintain a high quality of life throughout treatment and recovery.
