Moffitt Cancer Center, AdventHealth Join Forces to Expand Cancer Care

Moffitt Cancer Center has partnered with AdventHealth on two groundbreaking initiatives:

AdventHealth Celebration

Clinical Research Unit and Infusion Center at Celebration

AdventHealth is partnering with Moffitt Cancer Center to bring to Central Florida early-phase clinical trials and other world-class cancer treatments that will benefit patients across the region, many whom have exhausted other treatment options.

The Central Florida facility encompasses the first and only Phase 1 site, where researchers from both organizations will conduct early phase clinical trials to develop new drugs so patients can receive critical treatments closer to home. In addition to the clinical research facility, the two organizations work together to operate a chemotherapy/immunotherapy infusion program at AdventHealth Celebration. That program is focused on solid tumor malignancies and malignant hematology.

In Phase 1 clinical trials, a drug or drug combination is tested for the first time in humans to assess tolerance and effectiveness. Enrollment in the clinical trials depends on patients meeting eligibility criteria to receive the treatments. In some patients, the drugs, although in an early research phase, prove effective.

This significant partnership allows both organizations to develop and share a single cancer research agenda. In addition, it will accelerate breakthrough research for the prevention and cure of cancer. The facility has 28 chairs in the infusion center to provide standard therapies and 13 newly added chairs in the clinical research unit reserved for investigational therapies. Care will be provided to patients with solid tumors and blood cancers.

The Celebration center extends the availability of the cutting-edge clinical trials Moffitt is known for providing. This includes access to one of the newest cancer treatments, immunotherapy, including CAR T-cell therapy to fight cancer. And most recently, the first-in-human clinical trial for a groundbreaking cancer vaccine was introduced here.
