At Moffitt Cancer Center, scientific research is a vital part of what we do. Our Thoracic Oncology Program has a dedicated team of clinical trial coordinators, research data specialists and other experienced medical professionals who are continually investigating new ways to prevent, detect and treat lung cancer.

Through our robust clinical trials program, our patients have unique opportunities to be among the first to benefit from cutting-edge techniques and technologies before those options are made available in other settings. Furthermore, our clinical trials benefit not only the patients who participate, but also every individual whose life will be impacted by lung cancer in the future.

Groundbreaking options

The research team in our lung cancer program is currently exploring:

  • Novel chemotherapy drugs and drug combinations
  • Immunotherapies
  • Gene therapies
  • Targeted therapies

Moffitt has received multiple lung cancer research grants from the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Additionally, in recognition of our bench-to-bedside approach—in which we quickly and directly translate our research breakthroughs into tangible benefits for our patients—-the NCI has designated Moffitt as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. Through our unwavering efforts, we have compiled one of the largest databases of cancer outcomes in the nation, which incorporates more than 13 years of clinical trial results.
