Moffitt Cancer Center uses clinical pathways to help optimize treatment for patients with a variety of diagnoses, including lung cancer, breast cancer and others. We are continually updating these pathways to reflect the latest advances in cancer detection, treatment and prevention, and to include the most current best practices in every step of a patient’s experience. Through the development and implementation of these pathways, we are working to translate evidence-based guidelines into safe, effective, individualized treatments for every patient.

At Moffitt, our oncologists use clinical pathways to:

  • Streamline patient care by using established guidelines to drive treatment decisions

  • Make treatment more cost-effective through the use of generic drugs instead of branded pharmaceuticals, when appropriate

  • Ensure that patients receive the treatments that are most beneficial for their unique diagnoses, while also taking into consideration their individualized needs, goals and preferences

Moffitt’s clinical pathways also emphasize patient education and goal alignment. Our oncologists help our patients make the best choices for their unique needs, while also emphasizing clear communication of each treatment’s potential risks and benefits of each option.

Some of the nation’s most widely respected medical professionals have contributed to these plans – including clinicians, but also biologists, epidemiologists, mathematical modelers and even financial analysts. These efforts are just one more part of our commitment to providing each patient with the safest and most effective treatment options possible.
