Message from the Chair: 

Welcome to the Department of Tumor Microenvironment and Metastasis. Our department is dedicated to understanding how tumors interact with their surrounding microenvironment, as well as with their host macroenvironment, and how these interactions drive cancer progression, metastasis, dormancy, and resistance to therapy. Our investigators study key aspects of cancer biology, including tumor–host interactions, metastatic organotropism, cancer and host metabolism, immune regulation and extracellular matrix remodeling. Using advanced technologies such as spatial transcriptomics, single-cell genomics/epigenomics, proteomics, combined with sophisticated organoid and in vivo models, our faculty aim to uncover new biological insights that can lead to innovative therapeutic strategies.

A defining strength of our department is our collaborative and multidisciplinary approach. By working closely with clinicians and scientists across Moffitt, we strive to translate fundamental discoveries into advances that improve patient care. We invite you to explore the work of our faculty and trainees and to learn more about the exciting research underway in our department. Together, we strive to advance fundamental knowledge of cancer biology and translate those discoveries into new strategies to prevent and treat metastatic disease.
