Cancer Focus: Breast Cancer, Ductal Carcinoma In Situ, Inflammatory Breast Cancer, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Triple Negative Breast Cancer Dr. Christine Laronga is a surgical oncologist specializing in breast cancer in the Comprehensive Breast Program at the Center for Women’s Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Laronga enjoys making a difference in women’s lives through her clinical practice and research. She treats women with all levels of breast disease, from benign cysts to metastatic breast cancer.Dr. Laronga is a principal investigator for several ground-breaking procedures, including nipple and areola skin-sparing efforts after mastectomy and liposuction for arm lymphedema resulting from breast cancer treatment. She also conducts basic research in proteomics, the study of protein markers in tissue and blood.At the national level, Dr. Laronga is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network breast risk reduction panel that reviews guidelines for treating women at high risk for breast cancer. She is treasurer for the Association of Women Surgeons (an international society). She is also a member of the American Cancer Society Clinical Cancer and Epidemiology study section evaluating research grant applications. In addition, she is a member of the National Consortium of Breast Centers and is the Florida State Chair for the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer.Dr. Laronga is extensively published in professional journals, has written several book chapters, speaks at numerous national and international scientific meetings, and is on the editorial board for several medical journals.
