TAMPA, Fla. — For the fourth year in a row, Moffitt Cancer Center President and CEO Alan F. List was named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s 112 Physician Leaders of Hospitals and Health Systems list.

The list features hospital and health system presidents and CEOs who hold medical degrees. All members featured on the list have demonstrated outstanding leadership and clinical expertise throughout their careers. Many individuals have served in the top spots of multiple hospitals throughout their careers in addition to community boards and national organizations. These physicians also have accomplished clinical careers, giving them unique insight into the health care industry.

“It is an honor to be associated with such talented health care leaders throughout the country,” says List. “I am very fortunate to work alongside an incredible administrative team and brilliant, engaged faculty at Moffitt who contributed to this great honor.”

Hospitals led by physicians consistently appear as top hospitals among rating and ranking sites such as U.S. News & World Report and Healthgrades. Many CEOs featured on this list have led their institutions through significant growth projects and technology installations, and continue to keep an eye on future development.

Becker’s Hospital Review has published this list since 2012. The full list features individual profiles of all hospitals.

Along with his role as president and CEO of Moffitt, List is a senior member in the department of Malignant Hematology and Experimental Therapeutics Program. Before joining Moffitt in 2003, List served as a professor of medicine and director of the leukemia and bone marrow transplant program at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He’s authored more than 325 peer-reviewed articles and is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the American Association for Cancer Research.

List is internationally recognized for his many contributions in the development of novel, more effective treatment strategies for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). His pioneering work led to the development of lenalidomide (Revlimid®) from the laboratory to clinical trials, which went on to receive fast-track designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and approval for the treatment of patients with MDS and multiple myeloma.

This recognition is just one of many accolades the cancer center has received. Moffitt is ranked as a top 10 cancer hospital by U.S. News & World Report. Moffitt is one of 49 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers and the only one based in Florida.

Additional accolades include the 2018 Working Mother 100 Best Companies national list, No. 4 ranking on DiversityInc’s 2018 Top 10 Hospitals and Health Systems list, and the 2018 Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality.

The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on editorial judgment and discretion, and nominations were considered when making selections for this list.
