WHO:             Moffitt Healthy KIDZ is a community outreach program offered by Moffitt Cancer Center for children and adolescents focusing on cancer prevention, healthy living and careers in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math). The program has been providing education for the mind and body throughout the greater Tampa Bay area for more than 12 years.

WHAT:          Moffitt Healthy KIDZ will host 60 students from the B.E.S.T (Brain Expansion Scholastic Training) Program, Moffitt’s Volunteen Program and the Berkeley Academy.

                         Students will get a glimpse into STEAM career opportunities available at a health care organization. Guest speakers will share their expertise, discuss new technological advancements and explain why they chose careers in medicine.  

  • Neurological surgeon Arnold Etame will kick off the event talking about performing brain surgery while a patient is awake.
  • Students will be immersed in the science behind oncology, learning about infection prevention and how researchers are making discoveries to advance cancer diagnosis and treatment.
  • Moffitt’s 2019 Physician of the Year Wade Sexton will explain what medicine means to him and how surgeons use robots in the operating room.
  • The day will end with yoga and a mindfulness demonstration.
