Dear Friends,

As we approach the end of summer, we're reminded of the profound impact our community has on the work we do at Moffitt Cancer Center. This year, the George Edgecomb Society continues to demonstrate the importance of collaboration between our researchers and the communities we serve. We’re proud to announce the award of two $75,000 grants to Moffitt teams that are conducting vital research on cancer disparities within the Black community.

What makes this year’s grants especially noteworthy is the involvement of community reviewers—individuals with deep knowledge of the 23 counties in our service area. This ensures that our research not only meets the highest scientific standards but also directly addresses the needs of the communities we serve. You can learn more about these impactful grants in this issue of our newsletter.

In this edition, we spotlight Moffitt’s Language Services department and their efforts to ensure every patient can communicate and understand their care in their native language. You'll also discover how Michael Bice, a member of Moffitt’s Hospital Board of Directors and the George Edgecomb Steering Committee, became involved in advancing Moffitt’s health equity initiatives.

These efforts you read about today, are just one part of our larger mission to reduce disparities and ensure that everyone, regardless of background, receives the highest quality cancer care.

Thank you for your commitment to health equity and the George Edgecomb Society. To learn more about how you can get involved, contact us on the George Edgecomb Society page or call the Moffitt Foundation directly at (813) 745-1403.

Regards,
