Robotic gynecologic surgery is one of the latest treatment advances offered at Moffitt Cancer Center. Using the da Vinci® robotic surgical system, Moffitt’s gynecologic oncologists remove cancerous cells with a high level of precision, leading to a greater degree of surgical accuracy and a lower risk of complications as compared to traditional procedures.

Robotic gynecologic surgery makes it possible for Moffitt’s gynecologic oncologist to achieve enhanced vision, precision and control during a hysterectomy or other similar operation. The gynecologic oncologist is in complete control of the surgical system throughout the entire procedure. He or she uses a small console to operate advanced, miniature tools that bend and rotate much more efficiently than the human hand. Using these tools, the gynecologic oncologist can remove abnormal cells from a patient’s body. Throughout the entire procedure, the gynecologic oncologist has access to high-definition, real-time images of the area being treated.

When compared to traditional gynecologic surgery, robot-assisted procedures have a number of potential advantages, including:

  • A shorter hospital stay after surgery
  • Less estimated blood loss during the procedure
  • Fewer blood transfusions
  • A reduced need for pain medications following the operation

At Moffitt, we offer robotic surgery for patients with a variety of diagnoses, including cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer. As a high-volume cancer center, we have completed thousands of gynecologic operations, making our gynecologist oncologist among the most highly experienced in the nation.
