National Cancer Survivors Day® was established by the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation (NCSDF), a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to enhancing quality of life for the millions of people who are living with cancer. The main focus of the day is to educate the public on the various challenges of cancer survivorship. Observed in communities across the nation and around the world, National Cancer Survivors Day® provides a unique opportunity to encourage cancer survivors to connect with each other, celebrate their milestones and acknowledge their support networks.

In essence, NCSDF defines a cancer survivor as anyone who is living with a personal history of cancer. This means that survivorship begins at the moment of an initial diagnosis and extends throughout the remainder of a patient’s life. On National Cancer Survivors Day®, a community can take an opportunity to spotlight its active and productive population of cancer survivors. Perhaps even more importantly, it can demonstrate how life after a cancer diagnosis can be fruitful, rewarding and inspiring.

The main goals of National Cancer Survivors Day® are to:

  • Honor the strength and courage of all cancer survivors
  • Inspire those who were recently diagnosed with cancer
  • Recognize the family members and friends who provide support to cancer survivors
  • Raise public awareness of the challenges of cancer survivorship
  • Dedicate resources, promote research and endorse survivor-friendly legislation designed to better the lives of cancer survivors

Scheduled on the first Sunday in June of each year, National Cancer Survivors Day® is a true celebration of life. Whether you are a survivor, family member, friend, medical professional or researcher, you are encouraged to participate in this special event. To help promote National Cancer Survivors Day®, the NCSDF assists hundreds of hospitals, support groups and other cancer-related organizations that host events by providing free guidance, education and networking opportunities.
