TAMPA, Fla. – Moffitt Cancer Center’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Dave Summitt received one of the top honors in his field when he was named CISO of the Year by the International Council of e-Commerce Consultants. The award, available only to information security executives, recognizes an individual’s outstanding contributions to the information security industry.

"This award is not only an honor for me, but it is also a credit to Moffitt’s entire cybersecurity team," said Summitt. "Together, our team works tirelessly to keep security threats from breaching our network and possibly putting our employees and patients at risk."

Dave Summitt award

Summitt has been making headlines for much of 2019 following his testimony before Congress on the need for legislation to stop the onslaught of robocalls in the U.S., especially in the health care industry. The U.S. House of Representatives and Senate are working on a bill that could be finalized in the coming weeks to address this serious issue.

"Keeping our patients’ information safe is one of our top priorities at Moffitt," said Yvette Tremonti, Moffitt’s chief financial and administrative officer. "We are proud of the work Dave has done to ensure Moffitt is a leader in information security, especially in health care where peoples’ lives and financial well-being are at stake."

The CISO of the Year accolade adds to the list of honors Summitt has received this year. He was named one of the top hospital and health care systems CISOs to know by Becker’s Hospital Review. Summitt celebrated his first anniversary serving on the Forbes Technology Council and recently received a nomination for Information Security Executive of the Year for North America presented by the Tech Exec Networks.
