TAMPA, Fla. Moffitt Cancer Center has been recognized as one of the United Way Suncoast Most Generous Workplaces for 2018 at No. 27. The cancer center was chosen out of nearly 1,000 partners of the United Way Suncoast, which spans DeSoto, Hillsborough, Pasco and Sarasota counties.

The ranking is based on the fiscal year’s workplace campaign contributions and the culture of care demonstrated at Moffitt.

“Each of these workplaces strive to create a culture of caring that requires an investment of time and resources by their leadership,” said Suzanne McCormick, CEO of United Way Suncoast. “In our community, 45 percent of households are working hard and barely making it. By making social impact part of their business objectives, these incredible partners and their employees are making a tremendous difference for the Suncoast region.”

Moffitt supports a companywide annual workplace campaign enabling team members to donate through simple payroll deductions. Creating such a structure requires an investment of time and resources by leadership, McCormick said. Moffitt also encourages its team members to participate in volunteer opportunities.

“We owe it to our community to give back,” said Alan F. List, M.D., president & CEO of Moffitt. “So many individuals and organizations in the community help support our cause here at Moffitt, so it is extra rewarding to bring all of our efforts full circle and help to make an even larger difference together.”

According to the United Way Suncoast, the top 100 organizations in the Suncoast region and their employees invested $16 million to help local communities. They did so through United Way Suncoast-led and supported programs in the areas of youth education, adult financial stability and support services.
