Moffitt Cancer Center Showcases Research and Innovation at 12th Annual Business of Biotech Conference
TAMPA, Fla. – Startup fundraising strategies, breakthroughs in cancer immunotherapy, and big data mining for patient care improvement will be spotlighted at Moffitt Cancer Center’s 12th annual Business of Biotech Conference: Discovering Tomorrow’s Cancer Cures. The event, which brings together biomedical companies, startups, research organizations, entrepreneurs and investors, offers networking, collaboration and partnership opportunities. This year’s conference is Friday, March 2, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Moffitt’s Vincent A. Stabile Research Building.
“The Business of Biotech is an impactful event because it allows for researchers, business professionals, and investors to connect and support one common cause – discovering tomorrow’s cancer cures,” said Jarett Rieger, conference chairman and senior director of Moffitt’s Office of Innovation and Industry Alliances. “It is a day dedicated to learning about and investing into technology that may be able to cure a disease that has taken the lives of so many loved ones.”
This year’s interview-style keynote address features Francis Cuss, MB BChir, FRCP, who is a former Chief Scientific Officer and Vice President of Bristol-Myers Squibb. Prior to his time at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Cuss held high-responsibility positions in the American pharmaceutical company, Schering-Plough, and the European pharmaceutical company, Glaxo. He will be interviewed by Cokie Roberts, ABC News Political Commentator, NPR Contributing Senior News Analyst, and member of the Moffitt Board of Advisors.
“We are honored to have Dr. Cuss as this year’s keynote address speaker,” said Rieger. “With his broad and extensive experience in pharmaceutical research and development, Dr. Cuss has played a leading role in the development of Opdivo (nivolumab), an immunotherapy used to treat certain types of cancer.”
In addition to Cuss’ appearance, the conference will include informative breakout sessions and tours of Moffitt’s hospital and research facilities.
