Moffitt Cancer Center Goes Pink with Tampa Catholic High School
WHO: Moffitt Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida, will host 50 Tampa Catholic AP science students and members of the school’s ThinkPink Club for a day filled with education, interaction and giving back.
WHAT: Moffitt Healthy KIDZ offers innovative health education for students from elementary school to college guided by the philosophy that prevention starts early. The program teaches about the importance of healthy nutrition and exercise and the dangers of smoking. Tampa Catholic’s ThinkPink Club focuses on providing financial assistance for families within the school community impacted by the disease. In the last 10 years, the club has raised nearly $15,000.
The day’s agenda includes:
- Dr. Christine Laronga and Dr. Marilin Rosa and will discuss the latest advancements in breast cancer and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) careers that contribute to cancer research, treatment and nutrition
- Tampa Catholic parent Marnee Long will share her breast cancer story
- Students will give back by creating cards filled with words of encouragement for Moffitt breast cancer patients
- Students will participate in mindful yoga and learn to stretch, focus, breathe and relax
