WHO:        Moffitt Cancer Center will host 100 middle school students from Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy Middle School, Ferrell Girls Preparatory Academy Middle School and Redlands Christian Migrant Association Leadership Academy for a day filled with education, interaction and giving back.

WHAT:     The Healthy KIDZ Program at Moffitt offers innovative health education for students from elementary through high school guided by the philosophy that prevention starts early. The program teaches the importance of healthy nutrition and exercise and the dangers of smoking.

The day’s agenda includes:

  • Students will hear from two operating room nurses in Moffitt’s Breast Oncology Program. They will also get to suit up in gowns and gloves and get an up-close look at different surgical instruments.
  • Moffitt researchers will give the students a look behind the microscope with a variety of live-cell imaging movies to help them understand the science behind breast cancer.
  • Students will get a tour of a mammography screening room to see how the machine works.
  • Students will have the chance to give back by creating cards filled with words of encouragement for Moffitt breast cancer patients.

WHEN:     Friday, Oct. 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

WHERE:   Moffitt Cancer Center, 12902 USF Magnolia Drive, Stabile Research Building, Ted & Marty Couch Auditorium (from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

               Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Outpatient Center at McKinley Campus, 10920 McKinley Drive (from 1:15 – 2:30 p.m.)
