David de la Parte of Moffitt Cancer Center Named 2018 Top General Counsel
TAMPA, Fla. – David de la Parte, Esq., executive vice president and in-house general counsel at Moffitt Cancer Center, was named 2018 Top General Counsel of the year by the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
The Top General Counsel Awards recognize in-house counsel who are leaders in their organizations and exhibit high ethical standards. “David has had a front row seat to the growth and success of the cancer center, playing a major role in many of our most important accomplishments,” said Alan F. List, M.D., president and CEO of Moffitt Cancer Center.
Mr. de la Parte has been an integral part of Moffitt’s legal team for the past thirty-one years, joining as outside counsel just one year after Moffitt opened its doors. During his tenure, he watched Moffitt grow from less than 100 employees to more than 5,800 strong and a modest 364,000 square feet to more than 2.5 million square feet. In 2007, he created Moffitt’s first in-house General Counsel office.
He has helped shape Moffitt’s history by overseeing the legal aspects of many of its major accomplishments, including the creation and growth of the Moffitt Medical Group; the creation of M2Gen and Moffitt’s McKinley campus; and oversight of $150 million in technology and data licensing transactions in the past three years, which have helped to fuel research and clinical care initiatives. His career defining moment was helping Moffitt achieve the coveted status of Comprehensive Cancer Center from the National Cancer Institute, making Moffitt the only one based in the State of Florida.
