Creating convenience for patients is always a priority at Moffitt Cancer Center. With high volumes of patient visits each day, the cancer center is always looking for ways to enrich the patient experience, whether by reducing wait times or extending hours.

To avoid patients having to wait for long periods for their blood and lab work, the cancer center is now allowing patients to schedule Saturday appointments for the blood draw and lab services.

On an average day, the blood draw and lab clinics can see anywhere between 200 to 300 patients, as this service is needed before a provider visit. If patients have to wait until after the weekend to schedule their appointment, it typically results in high patient volumes and long lines on Monday.

“Opening on Saturdays provides patients the ability to come in advance to avoid the line and go to their other scheduled visits on time,” said Marion Knott, clinic access manager at Moffitt.

If they schedule their blood and lab work appointments on Saturdays, patients can now have their results completed in advance for their next visit with their provider.

In addition to the extended hours for blood draw and lab services, Moffitt is offering radiology appointments on the weekends. This gives patients the option of completing all the necessary tasks needed before their next visit.

Since Saturday appointments are new to Moffitt, Knott says the cancer center is currently scheduling about 50 patients with the hopes to expand in the future if needed.

Patients who are interested in scheduling their upcoming blood and lab appointments on Saturday can now do so by contacting the patient appointment center at 1-888-663-3488. The weekend clinic hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
