The fellowship, which has two one-year positions available each year, is based at Moffitt Cancer Center, located on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa. The expected start time is July 1, however, other dates will be considered. Moffitt Cancer Center is the only Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by National Cancer Institute based in the state of Florida. There are approximately 33,000 surgical cases, 20,000 consultations/reviews, 18,000 cytology cases, 10,000 cytology consultations and reviews, 2,100 FNA and 7,000 bone marrow cases annually.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Oncologic Surgical Pathology program is to contribute to the prevention and the cure of cancer through the education of future oncologic surgical pathologists, especially those with an interest in an academic career.

Program Aims:

  1. Provide training in all aspects of tumor pathology allowing the fellows to gain experience and expertise in histologic diagnosis and applications of advanced diagnostic techniques including the proper use of immunohistochemical stains as well as other appropriate techniques through exposure to and training on a broad set of clinical material under the supervision of highly skilled faculty members.
  2. Develop expert surgical pathologists with the skills, diagnostic abilities, and competency to practice in an academic center and/or community hospital setting to serve the people of Florida, the nation, and the world.
  3. Train fellows in gross inspection and dissection, frozen section selection and interpretation through dedicated assignments under faculty supervision.
  4. Train fellows in complete evaluation of surgical and consult cases under faculty supervision.
