Radiation therapy is an integral part of ductal carcinoma in situ treatment. In many cases, radiation therapy is recommended after surgery; even though it’s often possible to remove all of the cancerous cells from the milk ducts through a lumpectomy or mastectomy, radiation therapy can help ensure that the entire malignancy has been destroyed.
