Dr. Seth Felder is a board-certified colon and rectal surgical oncologist in the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center and is an Associate Member who treats diseases of the small intestine, colon, rectum, and anus. Following his colon and rectal surgery training at the University of Minnesota with international leaders within the field, he pursued additional training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Advanced Colorectal Surgical Oncology to gain further expertise to best care for patients diagnosed with cancers of the intestine. He understands the fears patients face with his/her diagnosis, specifically regarding the impact it may have on bowel function. He focuses on these important aspects of a patient’s quality of life, and whenever possible, he uses nerve-sparing surgical techniques that can help to preserve anal, bladder, and sexual function. Dr. Felder has significant experience in complex Robotic minimally invasive surgery, providing optimal surgical outcomes and shortened recovery times. He also has expertise in transanal minimally invasive procedures. He works closely with specialists in medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology to discuss individual cases at Moffitt’s weekly tumor board conferences, with the goals of providing the most comprehensive care possible for each patient. Dr. Felder has additional expertise in rectal cancer, personalizing each patient’s treatment to maximize both cancer and quality of life outcomes. His research is largely focused on enhancing the degree of rectal tumor response to treatments, allowing some patients to avoid resection of the rectum, and follow a “watch-and-wait” strategy. Dr. Felder’s research has been presented at national meetings and published in medical journals as well as textbook chapters. He is member of the Clinical Guidelines Committee for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines for Hereditary (Familial/Genetic) Colorectal Cancer, and on the Scientific Advisory Board for FORCE, a resource empowering patients and families facing hereditary cancer.
