2 Moffitt Faculty Members Named Fellows of the American Society for Radiation Oncology
TAMPA, Fla. — The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), the world’s largest society for radiation oncology professionals, has named its 2022 class of Fellows. Moffitt faculty members Thomas Dilling, M.D., and Eduardo Moros, Ph.D., are among the 27 recipients who will be awarded the designation during a special ceremony in October at ASTRO’s 64th Annual Meeting.
Dilling, a physician and senior member of Moffitt’s Radiation Oncology Department, provides radiotherapeutic treatment for patients with lung cancer. He is also a researcher focusing on how artificial intelligence can help generate novel insights into patient treatment and toxicity. He has assembled one of the largest and most complex databases of lung radiotherapy data in the world.
Moros, a medical physicist, is also a senior member of the Radiation Oncology Department. His career has focused on developing mathematical models, devices, techniques and systems to advance radiation oncology. He is working on advancing adaptive (personalized) radiation therapy using quantitative imaging analysis (radiomics) and artificial intelligence (machine learning) to gain biological/functional information from daily medical images.

Dilling and Moros are part of an elite group of physicians and medical physicists who are being recognized this year for their far-reaching contributions to the field of radiation oncology and their progress in advancing cancer research, education and patient care,” said Laura A. Awarded annually since 2006, the ASTRO Fellows program recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to radiation oncology through research, education, patient care and/or service to the field. Since its inception, the designation has been awarded to just 421 of ASTRO’s 10,000 members worldwide.
