Alan F. List, president and CEO of Moffitt Cancer Center.

Alan F. List, the president and CEO of Moffitt Cancer Center, has been once again named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s Physician Leaders to Know List. This is the fifth year in a row he has received the honor.

The annual list features hospital and health system presidents and CEOs who hold medical degrees, and has been published every year since 2012. The full list features profiles of each respective hospital.

“There are so many talented health care leaders in this country, and I am humbled to be associated with them on this list,” List said. “I would be remiss if I didn’t share this recognition with the administrative team and the talented faculty here at Moffitt.”

Dr. Alan F. List, president and CEO, Moffitt Cancer Center.

List is internationally recognized for his many contributions in the development of novel, more effective treatment strategies for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). His pioneering work led to the development of lenalidomide (Revlimid®) from the laboratory to clinical trials, which went on to receive fast-track designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and approval for the treatment of patients with MDS and multiple myeloma.

Along with his role as president and CEO of Moffitt, List is a senior member in the department of Malignant Hematology and Experimental Therapeutics Program. Before joining Moffitt in 2003, List served as a professor of medicine and director of the leukemia and bone marrow transplant program at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He’s authored more than 325 peer-reviewed articles and is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the American Association for Cancer Research.

List’s many recognitions and his ongoing work in malignant hematology secured his spot on the list again this year. Many of those featured this year have served in the top spots of multiple hospitals throughout their careers in addition to community boards and national organizations. These physicians also have accomplished clinical careers, giving them unique insight into the health care industry.

Hospitals led by physicians consistently appear as top hospitals among rating and ranking sites such as U.S. News & World Report and Healthgrades. Many CEOs featured on this list have led their institutions through significant growth projects and technology installations, and continue to keep an eye on future development.

This recognition is just one of many accolades the cancer center has received. Moffitt is ranked as a top 10 cancer hospital by U.S. News & World Report. Moffitt is one of 51 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers and the only one based in Florida.

Additional accolades earned by the cancer center include a No. 3 ranking on DiversityInc’s 2019 Top 10 Hospitals and Health Systems list, and the Human Rights Campaign naming it a 2019 Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality.

The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on editorial judgment and discretion, and nominations were considered when making selections for this list.
