Brian C. Springer, MHA

Brian C. Springer, MHA, is vice president of Research Administration and associate center director of Administration at Moffitt Cancer Center. He works closely with executive leadership, faculty and team members to enhance and cultivate Moffitt’s world-class research. 

As VP of Research Administration, Springer leads research operations, from development and planning to direction, finance, operation and evaluation. He also oversees renewal of Moffitt’s National Cancer Institute core grant, which was approved for another five years in 2012. This grant supports Moffitt’s research infrastructure of five core programs: Cancer Biology & Evolution;  Cancer Epidemiology; Chemical Biology; Health Outcomes and Behavior; and Immuno-Oncology. Each program is made up of a multidisciplinary team that focuses on an overall scientific theme and specific aim, which together provide Moffitt’s strong, multidimensional approach to defeating cancer.

Previously, Springer served as executive vice president at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y., overseeing fiscal and managerial administration of all operations with a staff of 3,300 and an operating budget of $600 million. He also held senior administrative leadership positions at two other National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers: executive director at the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and assistant director of finance and administration and director of clinical research management at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Springer received his Master of Healthcare Administration from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is an active member of the Cancer Center Administrators Forum (CCAF) and served as a member of the Executive Committee.  He is also a member of the Association of American Cancer Institutes and served on the Clinical Research Initiative Steering Committee. Springer has held multiple roles with the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and Alliance of Dedicated Cancer Centers. During the summer and fall of 2014, he served as co-chair of the National Cancer Institute Phase 2 Working Group to streamline the Cancer Center Support Grant application and review process. He co-chairs the CCAF Information Technology Steering Committee, and serves on several committees of the national Oncology Research Information Exchange Network (ORIEN). He currently serves on the External Advisory Committees of more than 10 other cancer centers.
