U.S. Reps. Neal Dunn, Debbie Wasserman Schultz Honored with Moffitt Momentum Award
TAMPA, Fla. — Moffitt Cancer Center awarded two U.S. congressional members with its prestigious Moffitt Momentum Award. The awards were presented to Reps. Neal Dunn and Debbie Wasserman Schultz during the cancer center’s Business of Biotech Conference on March 25 and 26.
The Moffitt Momentum Award recognizes outstanding public servants who have been tireless advocates for those battling cancer. It is given to elected officials from all levels of government across the political spectrum. Previous recipients include former Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and former Florida Gov. Rick Scott.
This year’s honorees are known for working across partisan lines to fight for research funding, access to care and other issues important to Florida families.
- U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been a longtime advocate for cancer patients and survivors. That commitment includes her landmark EARLY ACT legislation to help younger women understand their risk of breast cancer and find the right tools to fight it. She has been a huge supporter of research, helping secure billions for the National Institutes of Health, and a strong advocate to help veterans with cancer, providing critical support for Moffitt’s partnership with Veterans Affairs.
- U.S. Rep. Neal Dunn is a urologist and former Army surgeon who has treated hundreds of men with prostate cancer. Dunn has championed numerous efforts to improve cancer care for active duty and retired military, including support for Moffitt’s partnership with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He recently drafted the Veterans Prostate Cancer Treatment and Research Act, which would elevate the standard of cancer care in all VA health centers and enroll more veterans in precision-medicine clinical trials.
