Moffitt President and CEO Dr. Alan List Inducted into the 2019 Florida Inventors Hall of Fame
TAMPA, Fla. (March 26, 2019) — Dr. Alan List, president and CEO of Moffitt Cancer Center, is being inducted into the 2019 Florida Inventors Hall of Fame. He is being recognized for his dedication to understanding cancer biology and developing novel therapeutic strategies for treating blood cancers.
In addition to his work as CEO, List is internationally recognized for his many contributions in the development of more effective treatment strategies for myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). His pioneering work led to the development of lenalidomide (Revlimid®) from the laboratory to clinical trials, which went on to receive fast-track designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and approval for the treatment of patients with MDS and multiple myeloma. This work transformed the natural history of MDS from a premalignant condition that progressed to cancer requiring aggressive treatment to a condition managed in the outpatient setting with medications.

List will be inducted at the 6th Annual Florida Inventors Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Gala on Sept. 20 at the Hilton Tampa Downtown and presented with a custom medal.
He is the author of more than 325 peer-reviewed articles and the Clinician’s Manual on Myelodysplastic Syndromes (2008). He serves as a member of the Myelodysplastic Syndromes Foundation Board of Directors and is the immediate past president (2017-18) for the Society of Hematologic Oncology. He also is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology; American Society of Hematology; American Association for Cancer Research; International Society for Experimental Hematology; J.P. McCarthy Foundation Medical Advisory Committee; and the SWOG Cancer Research Network.
The Florida Inventors Hall of Fame recognizes and commends Florida inventors whose achievements have advanced the quality of life for Floridians, the state and the nation. Nominees, who must hold at least one U.S. patent, were nominated through an open nomination process and elected by a selection committee comprising distinguished leaders in research and innovation throughout Florida.

Sanberg, chair of the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame advisory board and senior vice president for research, innovation and knowledge enterprise at the University of South Florida. “Collectively, the 2019 inductees hold more than 340 U.S. patents.”
The Florida Inventors Hall of Fame was recognized by the Florida Senate in 2014 with a resolution sponsored by Sen. Jeff Brandes that commends the Hall of Fame “for its commitment to honoring inventors and celebrating innovation, discovery, and excellence.”
