TAMPA, Fla. — Once again, Moffitt Cancer Center has been recognized for its commitment to technology and to its team members in that field. Computerworld named the cancer center to the No. 31 spot on its 2018 list of 100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology.

“We are honored to be recognized once again as a best place to work in IT,” said Jennifer Greenman, vice president and chief information officer at Moffitt. “This achievement is a testament to the talent and dedication of our information technology professionals, as well as an organizational culture that fosters engagement and innovation. Moffitt’s IT department is united with our patients and colleagues in the fight to prevent and cure cancer.”

As an interactive room services technician, Tony Cambareri knows firsthand about Moffitt’s commitment to its team members in technology. For 11 years, Cambareri has ensured that inpatients at Moffitt have at least some of the comforts of home, including interactive room services that link to entertainment and information specific to their care.

“In our IT department, we look at things from the perspective of the customer, not IT,” Cambareri said. “Tech is secondary to the needs of the customer, which is why we are successful here.”

Team members within Moffitt’s IT department value the user-friendly approach of the technology utilized, and according to Cambareri, he adjusts his role based on the patient’s needs and the length of their stay.

“Patients who are here longer really miss those creature comforts,” Cambareri said. “They want the content they can access from their home, and I’m happy to help them gain that during their treatment here. I will install different tech they bring from home and also teach patients how to transition between programs. It’s a job I love.”

That interaction has changed his perspective and has helped him understand the cancer center’s commitment to not only its patients, but to its team members. The IT department’s support of new initiatives and its technicians makes for a work environment that is empowering and retentive, Cambareri said.

Moffitt’s IT department delivers innovative technology solutions and services that advance the organization’s mission — to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer. IT team members take pride in their important contributions to lifesaving patient care and research, and this meaningful role is consistently cited as fostering a rewarding work environment. Moffitt also encourages a healthy work/life balance for its IT teams. In addition, team members utilize and value Moffitt’s routine education and development opportunities for IT professionals.
