Moffitt Healthy KIDZ, Derrick Brooks Charities Huddle Up to Empower Girls
TAMPA, Fla. –Middle and high school girls will learn how to save lives thanks to a partnership between the Moffitt Healthy KIDZ Program and Derrick Brooks Charities, Inc.
On Feb. 10, about 20 girls from different Tampa Bay area schools will become certified in CPR by the American Heart Association, undergo first aid-training and learn about the dangers of tobacco at Moffitt Cancer Center. The girls, from seventh-graders to high school seniors, will also tour the cancer center and get hands-on experience learning about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers.
The Derrick Brooks Charities Rites of Passage Female Mentoring Program and Moffitt Healthy KIDZ are joining forces to empower these girls with the knowledge and experience for a brighter future.
“Both organizations are lending their muscle to inspire these girls to learn about healthcare careers and potentially change their lives,” said Nikki Ross-Inda of Moffitt. “We want to arm them with real-world skills and set them up for success.”
Derrick Brooks Charities provides educational opportunities for socio-economically challenged youth to develop into the strong, productive leaders of tomorrow. Moffitt Healthy KIDZ teaches youth about cancer prevention, healthy living and positive life choices.
