TAMPA, Fla. (April 10, 2019) — Moffitt Cancer Center President and CEO Alan List, M.D., has been selected as a resident member of The Florida Council of 100, a private, nonprofit, bipartisan organization that promotes the economic growth of Florida. Composed of Florida business leaders, the council works closely with Florida’s governor, state agencies, Legislature, and judicial branch, as well as private organizations, to create positive change and improve the quality of life for citizens throughout the state

List has taken a keen interest in economic development as CEO of Moffitt, most recently serving as the 2018 chair of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation. The cancer center is projected to have a $2.5 billion economic impact for 2019. It is a Top 10 cancer hospital based on U.S. News & World Report.

“I am honored to serve on The Florida Council of 100,” List said. “Continued economic development is vital to our region and to the state. It is exciting to be part of an organization that can help move that needle by strengthening our economy, as well as nurturing those things that make Florida such a wonderful place to live.”

In addition to his work as CEO, List is internationally recognized for his many contributions in the development of novel, more effective treatment strategies for myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). His pioneering work led to the development of lenalidomide (Revlimid®) from the laboratory to clinical trials, which went on to receive fast-track designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and approval for the treatment of patients with MDS and multiple myeloma. This work transformed the natural history of MDS from a premalignant condition that progressed to cancer requiring aggressive treatment to a condition managed in the outpatient setting with oral drugs.
