Moffitt Cancer Center Showcases Research and Innovation at 13th Annual Business of Biotech Conference
TAMPA, Fla. — Artificial intelligence, cell therapy, clinical pathways and immune oncology production will be spotlighted at Moffitt Cancer Center’s 13th annual Business of Biotech Conference: Cracking the Cancer Code. The event, which brings together biomedical companies, startups, research organizations, entrepreneurs and investors, offers networking, collaboration and partnership opportunities. This year’s conference is from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 22 at Moffitt’s Vincent A. Stabile Research Building.
“Since 2006, the Business of Biotech Conference has been an opportunity for researchers, business professionals and investors to connect in the fight to discovering cures for cancer,” said Jarett Rieger, conference chairman and senior director of Moffitt’s Office of Innovation and Industry Alliances. “Each conference is a chance for the biotech community to network, learn from one another and invest in technological discoveries that may lead to cures of life-altering diseases.”
This year’s interview-style keynote address features Reid Huber, Ph.D. Huber is a partner at Third Rock Ventures, one of the industry’s preeminent venture capital firms. Prior to Third Rock, Huber was executive vice president and chief scientific officer at Incyte Corporation, where he helped to bring more than 25 therapeutics into clinical development. Huber has also held scientific research positions at DuPont Pharmaceuticals and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
“We are honored to have Dr. Huber as this year’s keynote address speaker,” said Rieger. “With his broad and extensive experience in drug discovery and clinical development, Dr. Huber has contributed to and led the discovery of two approved therapeutics, Jakafi® (ruxolitinib) and Olumiant® (baricitinib).”
Also during this year’s conference, Moffitt’s president and CEO will present the Moffitt Momentum Award to Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandy Murman. The award honors leaders who have championed Moffitt and cancer research. Previous recipients of the award include Gov. Rick Scott and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn.
