TAMPA, Fla. — Moffitt Cancer Center has been recognized as a winner of the 2019 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award for its commitment to offering an exceptional patient experience. This is the fifth consecutive year that Moffitt has received the recognition.

The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally recognized symbol of achievement in health care. The award honors organizations that have maintained a positive performance in the top 5% of Press Ganey clients.

“This recognition would not be possible without the dedication of the entire Moffitt team in delivering compassionate, extraordinary care every single day,” said Jack Kolosky, chief operating officer and president of the Moffitt Hospital. “This award demonstrates Moffitt’s commitment to listen to and act on patient and family experience feedback by using a standardized survey tool.”

The award is given annually based on quarterly performance for the course of the award year. Eligibility for the award is based on an organization’s participation in inpatient surveying, and a peer group ranking of the 95th percentile or above on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requires all inpatient hospitals to participate in HCAHPS surveys to standardize and measure patients’ perception of their hospital experience. Moffitt began participating in HCAHPS surveys in April 2014, and since then, the cancer center has been recognized by Press Ganey for outstanding patient experience each year.

Moffitt is one of more than 10,000 health care facilities partnered with Press Ganey, and the award represents an important recognition from the industry’s leader in measuring, understanding and improving the patient experience.

The awards were announced during Press Ganey’s National Client and Executive Leadership Conference in Orlando on Nov. 18. This year’s keynote speaker was Emmy-winning actress, social advocate and cancer survivor Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The annual event convenes more than 3,000 professionals from all domains of care for three days of exceptional presentations and learning opportunities that will enable attendees to align their teams around the shared mission of improving the safety, quality, and experience of care for the people who receive it and for those who deliver it.
