TAMPA, Fla. — For the 10th year in a row, Moffitt Cancer Center has earned CEO Cancer Gold Standard reaccreditation for maintaining a strong commitment to the health of its team members and satisfying the latest comprehensive requirements of the Gold Standard.

“Moffitt Cancer Center remains focused on the health of its team members just as it is to its patients,” said President and CEO Alan List, M.D. “As an institution that focuses solely on the prevention and cure of cancer, Moffitt is proud to earn this designation for its employees. We value the power of prevention, and what better place to start than with our own 6,000-plus team members.”

To earn and maintain CEO Cancer Gold Standard accreditation, an employer must meet specific requirements in corporate culture and health benefits:

  • Establish policies and programs to reduce cancer risk by prohibiting tobacco use and supporting tobacco cessation efforts
  • Promote physical activity, healthy nutrition and weight management
  • Provide health insurance options that include detecting cancer at its earliest stages, access to quality care, and participation in clinical trials
  • Promote employee awareness of these initiatives
  • Support the needs of cancer survivors in the workplace

The CEO Roundtable on Cancer was founded in 2001 when former President George H.W. Bush challenged a group of executives to “do something bold and venturesome about cancer within your own corporate families.” That nonprofit organization of CEOs developed the Gold Standard, an employee wellness accreditation program that addresses cancer in the workplace. Nearly 200 private, nonprofit and government employers in a wide range of occupational categories have earned Gold Standard accreditation, including the National Cancer Institute and a number of NCI-designated cancer centers.

The reaccreditation comes on the heels of several national recognitions for Moffitt. The cancer center is the No. 4 health care facility on DiversityInc’s 2018 Top Hospitals & Health Systems List, and the Human Rights Campaign designated Moffitt as a 2018 Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality.
