TAMPA, Fla. — Judge Jessica Costello, Rose Baker Reilly and Edison Liu, M.D. have been appointed to Moffitt Cancer Center’s Institute Board of Directors, joining 25 other prominent figures who serve on the cancer center’s parent board of directors.

“We are excited to have Judge Costello, Rose Baker Reilly and Dr. Liu join the Institute Board of Directors,” said Patrick Hwu M.D., president and CEO of Moffitt. “Their expertise and experience, coupled with a passion to serve their communities, will only help us to further our mission to prevent and cure cancer.”

Costello has served as a Hillsborough County court judge since March of 2019. Prior to her judicial appointment, she was the assistant statewide prosecutor with the Florida Attorney General’s Office. In this role she managed local, state and federal law enforcement teams in the prosecution of organized crime throughout the state with a focus on counterterrorism, gangs, human trafficking, drug trafficking and fraud. As an avid volunteer and public speaker, Costello is dedicated to meaningful involvement in the Tampa Bay community, including serving as a mentor to at-risk youth. She was recently named a Top 10 Under 40 by Tampa Magazine.

Liu is a professor and president emeritus of the Jackson Laboratory (JAX), an independent, nonprofit research organization world-renowned for its mice and data resources that are used for biomedical research. Liu was the president and CEO of JAX, as well as the director of the National Cancer Institute-designated JAX Cancer Center from 2011-2021. Previously, he was the founding executive director of the Genome Institute of Singapore and the president of the Human Genome Organization. He was also the scientific director of the National Cancer Institute’s Division of Clinical Sciences, where he oversaw the intramural clinical translational science programs.

In November 2021, Reilly was appointed as chair of Moffitt’s Foundation Board. She joined Moffitt’s board of directors in 2018, serving on several committees and projects throughout her tenure. With more than 17 years of experience in both executive coaching and search and financial services, she is an independent consultant to organizations and senior leaders for executive coaching, succession planning and executive searches.

Moffitt’s Institute Board establishes the overall mission, strategic plan, and operational and financial standards and policies of the cancer center. It serves as the parent corporation and primary planning entity for the Moffitt Cancer Center system, which includes three other not-for-profit subsidiaries: a hospital, foundation and physician practice group.
