Charles Gibson Joins Moffitt’s National Board of Advisors
TAMPA, Fla. — Charles Gibson has been appointed to Moffitt Cancer Center’s national Board of Advisors. Gibson is a retired broadcast television anchor and journalist, serving ABC News for 34 years.
“We are thrilled to have Charlie join this group and bring his worldly expertise to the board,” said Bob Griese, chair of Moffitt’s Board of Advisors and former Dolphins Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback. “He has a passion for Moffitt’s mission, and he will be a great asset to the board.”
Gibson began his career in 1965 as the news director for Princeton University’s student-run radio station. After graduating from Princeton, he worked as a radio producer for RKO and as a television reporter for WLVA in Lynchburg, Virginia. In the early 1970s, he covered the Watergate scandal and the resignation of President Richard Nixon. In 1975, he joined ABC News, working as a general assignment reporter and as a White House correspondent. Gibson became a host of “Good Morning America” from 1987 to 2006 and the anchor for “World News with Charles Gibson” from 2006 to 2009. He retired in 2009.

In 1973, the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded him a National Journalism Fellowship. The Radio Television Digital News Association awarded Gibson the Paul White Award in 2006, and in 2008 Quinnipiac University awarded him the Fred Friendly First Amendment Award.
Gibson is married to Arlene Gibson and they have two daughters, Jessica and Katherine.
Gibson joins 33 other prominent figures on Moffitt’s National Board of Advisors.
