11th-Annual Spring Swing® - Moffitt’s Sun Safety Tour Hits Florida Ballparks with Free Screenings
WHO: Moffitt Cancer Center and the Tampa Bay Rays
WHAT: Spring Swing® - Moffitt’s Sun Safety Tour is a partnership between Moffitt and the Tampa Bay Rays offering free skin cancer screenings at specified baseball spring training venues throughout Florida. Screeners look for early signs of skin cancer while promoting sun safety, skin cancer awareness and education with help from Moffitt’s Mole Patrol® team. Free giveaways include Blue Lizard sunscreen, T-shirts, lip balm and fans.
Over the past decade, Spring Swing has provided nearly 4,100 free skin screenings. Our skin cancer experts have detected 4,097 suspected cancerous lesions, including 25 suspected melanomas, which is the deadliest form of skin cancer.
Join Moffitt and the Rays for the 2018 Spring Swing® Sun Safety Tour at the following spring training venues to receive a free skin cancer screening:
- Sunday, Feb. 25 – Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles, JetBlue Park at Fenway South, Fort Myers – screenings available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fort Myers Mayor Randall Henderson Jr. is scheduled to present Moffitt an on-field proclamation declaring it Sun Safety Awareness Day. Blue, the Blue Lizard mascot, will step up to the plate for a free skin screening.
- Sunday, March 18 – Tampa Bay Rays vs. Detroit Tigers, Charlotte Sports Park, Port Charlotte – screenings available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Charlotte County Commissioner Christopher Constance is scheduled to present a proclamation on-field. Raymond, the Rays mascot, will also get a free screening, and be on the lookout for special Rays giveaways.
- Sunday, March 25 – Minnesota Twins vs. Boston Red Sox, CenturyLink Sports Complex, Fort Myers – screenings available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
