The fourth Global Cardio-Oncology Summit held on September 28-29, 2018 at the Hilton Tampa Downtown was co-hosted by the International CardioOncology Society, the Canadian Cardiac Oncology Network and the British Cardio-Oncology Society, in partnership with Moffitt Cancer Center and the University of South Florida (USF) as the academic institutional sponsors. This year’s summit was co-chaired by Dr. Michael Fradley, Cardiologist at Moffitt Cancer Center and University of South Florida, and Dr. Roohi Ismail-Khan, Medical Oncologist at Moffitt Cancer Center and University of South Florida, in Tampa, Florida, United States.
This summit models a leading-edge interdisciplinary approach to preventative and targeted medicine in cardio-oncology. This important field of study, aimed at understanding cardiac complications of oncology treatments, has gained a growing interest from a number of healthcare providers including oncologists, cardiologists, radiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and basic scientists. The summit featured the latest research and clinical guidelines in the multidisciplinary field of cardio-oncology and included information on the prevention, management and treatment of cardiac complications related to oncology therapy.
Presenters were from multiple cancer clinics and covered a variety of cancer types for which treatment affects the heart. Moffitt faculty was represented with 11 presenting and/or chairing sessions:
