Nationally Recognized Cancer Care Now Available in Wesley Chapel
Opening February 15th, Moffitt Cancer Center Wesley Chapel is a 28,000 square-foot outpatient facility bringing access to Moffitt expertise and nationally-ranked cancer care to Pasco County.
"Satellite locations like this one offer an innovative, hybrid care setting – bridging the gap between typical community private practice and academic centers. The lead physicians at Wesley Chapel follow a “multi-specialty” model where we can focus on a select set of disease types. This allows us a tighter clinical focus as well as the capability of incorporating novel research and treatments. At the same time, we are able to cover a larger range of diagnoses to improve patient access to care," said Dr. Timothy Kubal, Medical Director of Moffitt Cancer Center Wesley Chapel.
Patients will receive a range of services at the Moffitt Wesley Chapel location. General Hematology and Medical Oncology care will include diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance after cancer treatment. With 22 infusion chairs, Moffitt Wesley Chapel will provide chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other targeted therapy infusions on site. Providers at Moffitt Wesley Chapel will also be able to evaluate, diagnose, and treat many benign blood disorders. Radiation Oncology services will be performed on-site, expanding patient access to radiation treatment. Beyond our Multi-Specialty providers, subspecialties located at Moffitt Wesley Chapel include Head & Neck, Endocrine, Gynecological Oncology and BMT survivorship.
"At opening, we will have three Medical Oncologists (myself included), two Radiation Oncologists, and four Advanced Practice Providers (APP) full-time on-site," said Dr. Kubal. "There also will be six other specialty providers at Wesley Chapel splitting their time between other Moffitt locations."
Clinical trials will be included in services offered at Moffitt Wesley Chapel later this year. The initial focus of trials at Moffitt Wesley Chapel will be later phase, more developed clinical trials that would be optimal for the community-based satellite location while earlier phase, higher-risk clinical trials will remain at Moffitt’s main campus on Magnolia Drive in Tampa. The scope of clinical trials offered at Moffitt Wesley Chapel will expand based on the needs we see develop in the community over time.
