Third Grade Friends Hold Bake Sale to Raise Money for Cancer Research

"Making patients feel better."

That was the goal of Addy and Kierra’s plan to hold a bake sale at school and donate the proceeds to cancer research at Moffitt Cancer Center. 

The dynamic duo, who are in third grade at Highland Lakes Elementary in Palm Harbor, mailed a handwritten note to Dr. Frederick Locke, the CAR T investigator at Moffitt. 

"Please use the money we made at our bake sale to help find better treatments or even a cure for cancer," it read. 

The bake sale netted $123.71. 

In turn, Dr. Locke invited the two students on a tour of the lab and a formal check presentation.

"Donations of any size can truly make a difference," said Dr. Locke.
