Moffitt’s Dr. B. Lee Green Named a Top Chief Diversity Officer
The National Diversity Council has recognized Moffitt Cancer Center’s Dr. B. Lee Green as one of the Top 50 Chief Diversity Officers in the nation. The honorees were recognized during the annual conference of the National Diversity Council.
Green serves as Moffitt’s Vice President of Diversity, Public Relations and Strategic Communications and has been in that role for 14 years. The National Diversity & Leadership Council’s list includes diversity officers from across the country and highlights individuals whose exemplary work provides a model for utilizing best practices, leading organizational change and making outstanding contributions to diversity and inclusion.
“While it’s an honor to see my name included among the company of so many individuals who have done so much to support diversity and inclusion efforts across the country, I must share this recognition with the incredible diversity team at Moffitt,” Green said. “This is a recognition of all of the hard work they do throughout the year and their commitment to inclusion, which is a value that Moffitt takes very seriously.”
Moffitt Diversity is charged with ensuring that the diverse communities and populations that comprise the fabric of the cancer center embrace the institution’s "culture of diversity." The team is also responsible for enhancing the cancer center’s image among underserved communities as an organization delivering cultural and linguistically competent care through prevention and education and mutually beneficial partnerships.
Under Green’s leadership, Moffitt’s Diversity team has helped the cancer center earn numerous recognitions for its diversity, equity and inclusion. For five consecutive years, Moffitt has been ranked in the top six on DiversityInc’s Top Hospitals & Health Systems List and has been named as a leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality by the Human Rights Campaign the past nine years.
Other diversity awards for the cancer center include being named a Top 10 Nonprofit Company for Executive Women, recognition as an Equity of Care Nominee by the American Hospital Association and a recipient of the National Organization on Disability Leading Disability Employer Seal, among others.
The theme of this year’s National Diversity & Leadership Council’s virtual conference was “Inclusion – Maximizing Your Talent” and featured keynote speakers like Donna Brazile, Anne Chow, Tony Plana and Carly Fiorina. During the conference, attendees gained access to learning sessions held by industry experts, organizational tracks and endless inspiration that highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
The Top 50 Chief Diversity Officers award recognizes the efforts of officers who have the leadership and counsel to maintain and further diversity and inclusion initiatives and provide innovative solutions to strategically prioritize the preservation and advocacy of diverse talent at an organization or company.
As diversity and innovation have grown into a major business imperative, so too has the call to rank companies and officers on their efforts. Chief Diversity Officers are integral in advancing the transformation of organizations through diversity initiative implementation.
