Moffitt a Winner of the John A. Hartford Foundation Tipping Point Challenge
Moffitt Cancer Center has been named one of the winning organizations for The John A. Hartford Foundation Tipping Point Challenge, a national competition sponsored by the Center to Advance Palliative Care. Out of 1,500 participants, Moffitt was one of only 24 winning organizations. The challenge was created to encourage organizations offering supportive and palliative care to advance their skills, ideas and solutions to improve health care delivery and the lives of all people living with a serious illness.

Promoted by Moffitt’s Department of Supportive Care Medicine and endorsed by partnering leaders across the cancer center, clinicians and others were invited to participate in learning opportunities meant to enhance their knowledge and essential skills to deliver quality cancer care to the highest need and most complex patients. “The goal of the challenge,” explained Dr. Diane Portman, chair of Supportive Care Medicine, “was to help health care organizations expand on the ability of all to care most effectively for seriously ill patients.”
Supportive care medicine is expert medical care dedicated to relieving the pain, distress and other symptoms that can accompany serious illness. Moffitt’s Supportive Care Medicine Program offers individualized, specialized care focused on the needs and goals of patients and their families. It aims to treat the whole person within the areas of communication, pain management, symptom management, advance care planning and more.
Moffitt also was recognized for completing the most designations since becoming a member organization. The competition challenged Moffitt to elevate skills across different specialties and discipline, and highlights Moffitt’s commitment to collaborative team science.
