With Moffitt, you can benefit from the latest breast cancer screening technologies near you. Your mammogram will be performed by a dedicated professional who is skilled and experienced in utilizing:

  • Full-field digital mammography – Digital mammograms produce high-quality images that can detect even very subtle signs of cancer, such as microcalcifications, which appear as tiny spots in breast tissue. Using special, high-resolution monitors, a radiologist can adjust the brightness of an image, change the contrast and zoom in for close-up views of specific areas of a breast. And, unlike traditional film-based X-rays, digital mammogram images are available for viewing on monitors within seconds, so there’s no waiting for film to develop. This can lead to faster answers for patients.
  • Full-breast tomosynthesis (three-dimensional mammography) – While a breast is compressed during a mammogram, an X-ray beam quickly sweeps through its entire structure in an arc and captures pictures of multiple “slices” of tissue as separate images. A radiologist can then view the images as a series. This technology can allow a radiologist to differentiate between a clump of healthy breast tissue and a suspicious mass, and thus identify very small and well-concealed abnormalities.

Moffitt has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). When awarding this status, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of its voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program. Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by experts in the field, have determined that these facilities have achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

The importance of mammography cannot be overstated. When diagnosed and addressed in its early stages, breast cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer.
