Moffitt Cancer Center provides numerous breast cancer chemotherapy options to patients from Clearwater, Florida, and elsewhere. The Don and Erika Wallace Comprehensive Breast Program has a team of medical oncologists who exclusively treat breast cancer, using their extensive expertise to provide each patient with a highly individualized chemotherapy plan.
Because we understand that there’s no such thing as a “one size fits all” chemotherapy prescription, our team takes into consideration:
- The type, size, stage and unique molecular composition of the tumor
- The type of hormone receptors that are present in the cancerous cells
- The degree of lymph node involvement (if any)
- The risk of the cancer spreading outside of the breast(s)
- The patient’s personal medical history and response to prior treatment(s)
By continually researching how each of these factors can influence a person’s response to breast cancer chemotherapy, then bringing this knowledge from bench to bedside, we’re able to ensure that every patient who turns to us for treatment is matched with the most promising options for his or her needs. And, our medical oncologists work collaboratively with our other medical professionals, including our breast cancer surgeons and radiation oncologists, to ensure that each patient’s plan is developed in the manner that research supports as the best possible option.
At Moffitt, patients from Clearwater and other nearby areas can access not only common breast cancer chemotherapy medications, such as cisplatin and doxorubicin, but also novel options that have the potential to be tomorrow’s “gold standard” in breast cancer treatment. Our clinical trials program is overseen by some of the nation’s most esteemed researchers, giving patients the options to access new medications that are not yet available in other settings. Furthermore, through clinical trials, many patients with complex diagnoses – such as recurrent or late-stage breast cancers – are able to consider many more treatment options than they would otherwise have access to.
