Have you ever wondered what it would be like to compete in a reality show fitness challenge? Moffitt team member and volunteer Amanda Tchir says she had the time of her life competing for $250,000 on NBC’s Spartan: The Ultimate Team Challenge Season 2, which she and her team, Strike a Pose won.

By day, Tchir works as a lab assistant in Moffitt's Histology Department, where she receives specimen/tissue/biopsies from patients and prepares them for pathologists to investigate.

After work on Tuesday and Wednesday, she volunteers in the PACU Department and in MRI, helping transport patients, getting food and drinks and making sure they are comfortable. Once she leaves Moffitt, Amanda heads to Crunch Fitness to teach a cardio HIIT class, a BBT (belly, butt and thighs) class and a yoga class.

Needless to say, fitness is an integral part of her life. She was a competitive dancer for six years, a varsity cross country athlete in high school and she trains hard at the gym every day.

When a friend reached out about auditioning for his team, Strike a Pose, in the Spartan: The Ultimate Team Challenge, she didn’t think twice about saying yes. The audition consisted of sending in a team video, photos and answering a lot of questions. Then the team spent one-week taping the show in Atlanta, Georgia.

"Filming and competing on Spartan was one of the best experiences of my entire life," Tchir said. "I love challenging myself physically as well as mentally. I love the teamwork and camaraderie of Spartan races."

To prepare, Tchir and team worked out regularly and even trained on an obstacle course built in a team member’s back yard.

Tchir’s fitness days are far from over as she continues to teach and compete in races all over the country.
