Moffitt Cancer Center at SouthShore looks more complete externally than it ever has before, but there is still ongoing construction internally to make sure the new ambulatory clinic is ready to welcome patients in January 2025.

Not only is construction ongoing, so is the hiring process. Moffitt’s talent acquisition team is working on a structured process to ensure positions are filled and that the new facility is staffed appropriately when it opens its doors.

“We have a variety of positions that will be available but the big target areas are nursing- and radiology-based positions,” said Chelsea Meisel, senior talent advisor at Moffitt.

There are nearly 150 positions to staff at Moffitt at SouthShore. That includes non-clinical positions like building operations and food service as well.

According to Catalina Vasquez, manager of talent acquisition at Moffitt, postings for position at Moffitt at SouthShore will be done in phases as the opening date for the facility approaches. Hiring too early is counterproductive, she points out, and adds that anyone interested in applying for positions should keep an eye out for postings this summer on Moffitt’s website.

“Human Resources has been getting a lot of calls about SouthShore and people are definitely excited about these opportunities,” Vasquez said. “Requirements vary for different positions, of course, but it’s important for applicants to be mission-driven and patient-centered in addition to having the appropriate technical skillset.”

According to Weaver Jones, supervisor of talent acquisition in nursing, Moffitt is working with professional organizations in south Hillsborough County like the Riverview Chamber of Commerce and actively engaging the group at live events. On June 20, Moffitt will host an “Ask Moffitt Anything” town hall event at the Lennard High School auditorium, where community members can learn everything from open positions and hiring practices to details on appointments and clinical resources available at SouthShore.

“This will be a great opportunity for people to ask about how many positions are available and what Moffitt is bringing overall to the SouthShore community,” Weaver said.

The talent acquisition team will have tables at the event as well to answer any one-on-one questions community members may have.

While the talent acquisition team is working on staffing Moffitt at SouthShore, Vasquez is quick to remind the community that the cancer center has openings at its Magnolia campus in Tampa as well.

“We will regularly be posting opportunities, so I encourage anyone who is interested to check in regularly to see what we have available,” Catalina said.
