Would you like to participate in Miles for Moffitt this year, but are not sure about running?

There are other ways to take tangible steps to support research and help beat cancer through Miles for Moffitt.

You can be part of this movement of inspiration, courage and hope, which welcomes everyone, regardless of ability and age. You can participate by running, walking, joining a team, being a virtual runner or walker, supporting a team or simply making an online donation. The important thing is to come together with the community for a time of fun and to help fulfill the common goal of raising money to fund lifesaving cancer research.

A group cheers for Miles for Moffitt participants along the race route in 2018.

If you plan to run or walk, be sure that you are in proper shape and accustomed to going the distance, says Ron Jennings, MSPT, Moffitt Cancer Center’s manager of Rehabilitative Services. While preparing for the event, increase your pace slowly. Jennings recommends aiming for steady progress and consistency, since most injury stems from attempting to progress too quickly. For runners, mixing short running intervals with walking is good preparation for longer runs. Importantly, before training for any type of exercise, whether running, walking or other activity, consider discussing your plans with your doctor and take any necessary precautions.
